COURSE:
AI in Engagement and Consultation: Opportunities, Risks and Real Practice
ABOUT
Artificial Intelligence is increasingly appearing in engagement and consultation work, often through tools and platforms teams are already using. Many professionals are being asked to think about AI before they feel they fully understand it.
This practical one-day course is designed for people with little or no prior knowledge of AI who want a clear, accessible introduction focused on real-world engagement practice rather than technical detail.
The session explains what AI is, how it works at a basic level, and where it is already influencing communication, consultation and decision-making processes. Participants will explore both the opportunities AI presents and the risks organisations need to consider, including data protection, governance, transparency and public trust.
Through guided discussion and practical exercises, attendees will consider how AI might support different stages of engagement and consultation activity, while developing confidence in when to use it, when to question it, and when human judgement must take priority.
The course places strong emphasis on responsible and proportionate use of AI. Participants will explore emerging expectations around governance, organisational reputation and integrity, helping them make informed decisions that stand up to scrutiny from colleagues, stakeholders and communities.
By the end of the session, participants will feel better equipped to navigate conversations about AI in their organisation and apply it thoughtfully and safely within engagement and consultation work.
